The Taj Cape Town is located in the historic centre of Cape Town, on the corner of St George’s Mall and Wale Street, close to the main government buildings, the Cathedral, and Governor Park. Although it is not in a seaside or V&A location, it is an excellent base for both business and tourist stays, as all of Cape Town’s attractions and government buildings are a short walk or taxi ride from the hotel. The building is a blend of historic architecture (completed in 1986 - it used to be the headquarters of the South African Reserve Bank and Temple Chambers) and contemporary style (a new tower was built on top of the building and houses rooms with views of the Table Mountain).
The hotel’s Tower rooms have views of either Cape Town or Table Mountain. Some of the Heritage and Taj rooms, although larger and better equipped, have limited views; they are located on the lower floors of the historic building.
Dining options include Bombay Brasserie, considered one of the best Indian restaurants in the world; The historic Twanky Bar; the Mint, serving a Mediterranean menu; and the excellent Lobby Bar.
The hotel has a spa with a pool and a well-equipped modern gym.
30 minutes by taxi from Cape Town International Airport (CPT)
December - March is the best time to visit as the weather is warm and sunny. The South African winter starts in June and continues well into September. Winters can be relatively cold, windy and rainy with temperatures dropping as low as 5 to 10°C.
