Qualia is one of the two most attractive resorts in the Australian Great Barrier Reef region. It is owned and was developed by Bill Oatley - a famous Australian winemaker and sailor who owns Hamilton Island.
Located on the quiet northern tip of Hamilton Island in 30 acres of manicured grounds well away from the island’s busy marina, Qualia is an excellent base to simply relax or explore Hamilton Island, other islands in the Whitsunday Islands National Park, and the Great Barrier Reef.
The resort has 60 spacious, free-standing, one-bedroom pavilions, and a magnificent Beach House with a separate dining area, direct beach access and a 12m long infinity pool. Each pavilion has a large living area, a large deck, and a small kitchen . The north-facing Winward Pavilions have private plunge pools, a bigger bathroom, and a separate bedroom area; as well as enjoyable panoramic views of neighboring islands. (Note, however, that the Leeward Pavilions face southwest and do not have pools.)
Dining options include Long Pavilion and Pebble Beach restaurants which offer excellent dishes and picturesque views of the Coral Sea.
The resorts' facilities include a spa and fitness center and two swimming pools. There is a good water sports center with kayaking, snorkeling, and diving equipment.
Children are not allowed (the age limit is 16 or over)
Qualia is located on Hamilton Island (in the Whitsunday Islands archipelago) which is a 1hr 30 minute flight south from Cairns (CNS). There are also direct flights to Hamilton Island VIP airport (HTI) from Brisbane (BNE) Melbourne (MEL) and Sydney (SYD).
April through November is the best time to visit the Great Barrier Reef. December through March can be uncomfortably hot and humid.
