Matakauri Lodge is located on a hillside, 10 minutes' drive from Queenstown. The Lodge overlooks Lake Wakatipu while also offering excellent views of the Remarkables Cecil and Walter Peak mountain ranges.
The Lodge and adjoining villas, originally constructed in 2000 with a contemporary New Zealand design, reopened in August 2010 after undergoing extensive refurbishment and a new interior design by acclaimed New Zealand Interior Designer, Virginia Fisher.
The Lodge’s Dining Room á la carte menu offers modern New Zealand cuisine focused on local produce. Guests can choose to dine at a number of resort locales including the Library, Dining Room, Remarkables Patio, Courtyard, and Lounge; all of which have views of Lake Wakatipu.
Matakuri offers accommodation in eleven luxurious guest suites. Three suites are located within the lodge while 8 suites are separately located in the nearby hillside forest. All suites have floor-to-ceiling windows, a private porch, and open fireplace. The freestanding Owner's Cottage, a 5,000 sqf villa which opened in February can accommodate up to eight guests. The Cottage has six separate outdoor spaces, including a courtyard and Jacuzzi. Each of the Cottage's suites has a private balcony and floor-to-ceiling views of the Remarkable Mountains on Lake Wakatipu from most of the rooms.
Matakauri Lodge has a luxury spa set in the pine forest featuring two treatment rooms with views across Lake Wakatipu and of the beautiful Remarkables Mountain Range and Cecil Peak. There is also a gym with an outdoor heated infinity pool.
Matakuri is located 20 minutes from Queenstown Airport (ZQN) and 10 minutes from Downtown Queenstown. Queenstown has direct flight connections with Auckland (1hr) (AKL), Sydney (3hrs)(SYD) and Melbourne (3hrs)(MEL). It takes approximately 6hrs to reach Queenstown by car from Christchurch.
February to April i.e. late summer and autumn are the best times to visit as the days are warm and resorts are not too busy. Skiing conditions are good from July to late September in and around Queenstown.
