Mashpi Lodge is a modern minimalist eco-lodge located in the lush Andean hillsides, a 3-hour picturesque car drive northwest of Quito. The setting is beautiful, offering magnificent views of the cloud rainforest. It is an excellent place to enjoy the Andean rainforest with its rich biodiversity in the luxurious setting. The lodge is located in the private 3,000-acre Mashpi Biodiversity Reserve, within the Tumbez-Choco-Darien region-one of the South American bioregions that extend from Panama to Northern Ecuador.
The Lodge has 22 rooms and suites including 19 Wayra Rooms (34sqm) and 3 Yaku Suites (37sqm). All are similarly equipped with standard luxury hotel amenities (except for TVs), and have floor-to-ceiling windows. The decor is minimalistic although the facilities are very luxurious.
The Lodge has a dining room serving traditional and modern dishes based on local ingredients from the lodge’s organic garden. Buffet lunches are served between guided excursions.
The activities include guided hikes, bicycle tours, and swimming in the surrounding rivers. There is also a spa and a library stocked with books about the local environment. Bird watching is one of the main attractions of Mashpi Lodge. There are over 30 types of birds, including beautiful hummingbirds which populate the cloud forest and most of them can be spotted at the reserve. An aerial tram, with a route extending almost a mile through the canopy, provides observers with a birds-eye view of the rainforest.
