Opened in 2010, Tambo del Inka is a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa at the footsteps of an ancient trail to Machu Picchu. Located in the Sacred Valley, an hour drive northwest from Cusco, Tambo del Inka is the newest luxury resort in Urubamba and the only hotel with a private railway station with trains to Machu Picchu.
The resort’s 128 rooms face either the river or the cordillera and the Chicón glacier. The hotel's public areas and rooms are very spacious and have been designed in a contemporary style using glass, stone, and wood. The rooms start at 41sqm (Superior and Deluxe Rooms) while suites are offering 70-82sqm of space.
The Resort’s Hawa restaurant serves Peruvian cuisine.
There is an indoor pool and a 19,375sqf spa with 12 treatment rooms at the Resort.
Guests can enjoy a variety of activities, including: historical and cultural tours, visits to Machu Picchu, kayaking on Lake Piuray, biking on mountain roads, and trekking.
Since the opening of Tambo del Inka, Perurail included the Urubamba Station as a stop on two of its three tourist trains, making a one day trip to Machu Picchu easily doable.
The hotel is 60 minutes (65km) from Cusco airport (CUZ) at the start of train tour to Machu Picchu (38kms). Cuzco is approximately 75 minutes' drive (70km) from Urubamba.
The dry season (May - September) is the best time to visit. Between June and August there is almost no rainfall, however temperatures during the night can fall below freezing. The wet season lasts from October - April, although October, November and April are not particularly wet.
